Types of Virtual Events

  • Tele-conference/tele-seminar
    • The live exchange of information among several persons remote from one another, but linked by a telecommunications system.
  • Video conferences
    • Are a set of interactive telecommunication and audio transmissions occurring simultaneously. Video conferences have also been called ‘visual collaboration‘.
  • Video phone call
    • Similar to a video conference but serving two individuals rather than a group
  • Webinars
    • Each participant sits at his/her own computer & is connected to other participants via the internet for viewing the presentation, and the internet or telephone for listening to it.
  • Webcast
    • Is a media file distributed over the Internet using streaming media technology to many simultaneous listeners/viewers; either live or on-demand. Essentially, webcasting is “broadcasting” over the Internet – such as radio station simulcasts.
  • Live Internet radio
    • Involves streaming media presenting listeners with a continuous stream of audio that cannot be paused or replayed, much like traditional broadcast media; accessible from anywhere in the world.  For example, both Paul and I host online radio shows for our respective companies, franchisEssentials and Strategic Growth Concepts, that air live and can later be downloaded as a podcast.
  • Web chat
    • Is a system that allows users to communicate in real time using easily accessible web interfaces, such as the chat function on Facebook, or the chat function you’ll find on the panel at the right side of your screen during this webinar.
  • Web collaboration
    • Is a system provides an organization with the capability to collaborate via the Internet in real time; there are a variety of these available.
  • Podcasts
    • Are  digital media files (either audio or video) that are released episodically and downloaded through web syndication, such as the company radio shows that I previously mentioned are saved after airing live and can then be downloaded as podcasts.
  • Web conferencing
    • Is used to conduct live meetings, training, or presentations via the Internet. In a web conference, each participant sits at his or her own computer and is connected to other participants via the internet.
  • Virtual environment events
    • A gathering of people sharing a common virtual environment on the web, rather than meeting in a physical location; are highly interactive and look/feel a lot like their physical counterparts.
